Health and Tabacco |
Shannon, I've been wanting to ask you about the difference between a
Congress Resolutions and a Bill of law.
My reason for asking this is because of the Tobacco No Smoking ban on Osage properties - rental, ownership, etc.
The Post 198, meetings, activities always include smoking among this group. They habitually ignore the No Smoking ban at this facility. One evening while we were in our Cultural class, those there from the post were sweeping up for some activity and were smoking, they were told this is a non smoking facility and they totally ignored the staff. You know me, I went out to remind them that this is a non smoking facility and would appreciate it that they not smoke. I was told by (John Williams wife) that they were working. I asked her if they have to smoke in order to work, and that did not impress me and they should respect the no smoking in the Culture Center.
This made me think that the attitude of many will do as they please and disregard our resolutions. I was wondering if there is any codes, fines added to this resolution, if not I believe there should be, after all there is a Health program explicitly to help people to stop smoking (if they wish). This seems we are fighting against ourselves. I choose not to go to the war-mothers labor day pow wow because of the smoking, which leaves us out of the celebrations. I do not go to the casinos for the same reason, I just don't like breathing in someone Else smoke.
What can be done on this, to impress upon those that choose to ignore this with disrespect for others health risk.
I've never smoked! Sandra
