News update 9/14/08 comment 2010

2010

Sent to the Osage News and other interested Osages (did not get published)

This first Congress of the Osage Nation has created a mockery of legislation and fair play. It is astounding, that Congress members Supernaw, Revard, Anderson, Branstetter, Red Eagle, Shackelford, and Simms have not been tarred and feathered and thrown off the Osage Campus. This group has done nothing but initiated and continued to be obstinate, selfishly idealistic of their own mind without any real attempt to bring this Nation together as a people. They have passed legislation for the appropriations, and only approximately 4-5 legislation for the people of this Nation. They have abused the Osage peoples Constitution by not fulfilling their promised oaths and their obligations to the people. If we cannot Trust our elected officials then this issue must be discussed and a solution for the future of our elected officials, those mentioned have already shown us what we don’t want or need for our governance. They conducted themselves with applied tyranny for personal gain and without any benefits for the Osage People. We have been shamed by their actions throughout their term. We must ask ourselves do we want to further be obliged by their shenanigans’? No! I say get them out of our way and move in better informed and honest people while they listen and pay attention to the people that voted for a new government. We know what we need and want from our Government and it is Not the arguing, bickering, obstinate, or tyranny from our elected officials.

If you have kept informed of the goings on, without, the rumor mills then you know what we must accomplished for this election.

I believe that we all should ask all running for office this question.

What are your goals, priorities and how do you plan to achieve these.

To Whom It May Concern:

Many others and I enjoy the Osage Newspaper, This newspaper is important to all Osages everywhere and those within the boundaries of Okla. that are not actively involved in the comings and goings here in the Osage.

The Congress's action in cutting the Executive Branches communication budget used for mailing the Osage Newspaper will represent a large hole in the hearts of our people.

I know that articles submitted for publications were printed exactly as submitted for the Osage Newspaper.

These Congress members (Supernaw, Shackelford, Simms, Revard, Red Eagle, Anderson and Branstetter) has excluded and ignored the population of the Osages worldwide.  The shame is on these individuals when their decisions for not serving the very people that put them in office. And now, they are thumbing their noses at us by their actions.

You Osages that are unhappy with this group must stand up and be counted and tell them to stop with their personal feelings  toward the other branches, and do what they were elected to do.

Mark Simms made the statement that they the Congress speak for the people. I for one informed him and those in the committee meeting that he does NOT speak for the Osage People and me.

What can we the people do to as a Nation to let the Congress know how dissatisfied we are in their actions and the abuses they have carried out with false information, their personal causes that has brought a barrier between the branches.  We all must remind them that they work for the people through the peoples Constitution.   It is my personnel opinion that letters will only inform them of their treachery to the people, we are going to have to go that extra step in making them pay attention and know we will no longer stand by and witness their personal grievance’s.

Letter sent today to the Bigheart Times in Barnsdale Times for publication.

  Letter to the Editor

From

Sandra L. Akins
Osage Member Citizen

I am writing you with one of my many concerns that I believe need attention from other Osage Citizens.

As stated in last months “Osage News” The Oklahoma Department of Transportation dedicated Hwy. 60 from Bartlesville to Ponca City as a New Scenic Byway to be referred to as the” Osage Heritage Trail Byway” that runs through the Osage Reservation should be a boon for the Osage Tourism, and, so it should. One would not have had been there to know the significant of this occasion and what this would mean to the Osage Reservation.

Where were our Governmental Elected Officials greeting and meeting the people?

In order to promote unity “All” our Elected Officials should participate in all goings on within our tribe, no matter who is the responsible organizer.
The lack of advertising and communication within the Reservation and the outside world, I would personally state this was not a “ boon” But a “disaster” when considering the amount of money spent by the Osage Tribe ($10,000.00) for Osage Native American food prepared by our remarkable Osage Cooks. I ask you to consider the preparation time and organization these cooks attributed to the grace of our people in sharing with all who would come.
The attendance of the meal was approximately 250 (give or take) that came to taste the food. It was with the knowledge of these same cooks that refused to waste the large amount of leftover food but to share with local organizations dedicated to feed those wanting a good hot meal.

I do not have the information on all monies spent and will not comment on other funds spent on this dedication.

We must have more and better advertising, early promotions and better communications if we are to achieve accountability to the Osage people for money being spent through the failure of good judgment from our elected Government officials. You must require better actions from our Government and staff.
Thank You

Sandra Akins
