I copied this from the Osage Nation web site, I thought this would interest many of you that do not read the Osage Nation web site. I want to continue to keep you all informed what is going on when I can.
Dear Osage Congress, The article on the front page of the "Osage News", "If you build it
they will come" states that "The Osage Nation will receive 20 to 33 percent back on each
dollar spent of total sales". The 10 million dollars of the 36 million dollar cost, We
would be spending represents 27.77% (approximately 1/4) of the total cost. The remaining
72.23% (approximately 3/4) of the cost will be paid by the unnamed partners in the project.
It would be safe to assume that the unnamed partners would expect an equal return on their
investment. The total return for the unnamed partners would then be about 60 to 99 percent
back on each dollar. You can see that there is a real problem with these figures. The total
they claim to pay out would be at the least 80 percent of each dollar. The highest would be
132 percent of each dollar. Even at the lower figure there would only be 20 percent of each
dollar left to pay for salaries, maintenance, insurance, and all the other expenses of
running a business. You see the absurdity of the 132 percent figure. The only way this math
would work is if they would be paying us quite a bit more than the unnamed investors.
Although, I believe personally that we should be paid more because we are the best looking
people on the face of the earth, in the real world it doesn’t work that way. The fact is
the team who gave us these figures are lying, or they can’t do middle school math. Either
way, this sends up a red flag higher than the proposed statue. There are also some
excellent bills coming up at the next session. Kudos to Kugee for ONCA 07-57 that will put
our contracting process in order. ONCA 07-52 by Shannon Edwards is an excellent program
that would distribute money to all enrolled members in the form of prescription drug
coverage. This could also be done in the form of Medical Savings Accounts. These accounts
reward participants for staying healthy. If a member does not spend the money on health
care by the end of the calendar year, they can use it for any purpose. Based on the figures
for ONCA 07-52, we could provide $500.00 per enrolled member for a cost of four million
dollars. There are great things ahead for the Osage if we put our house in order. We need to
run, not walk way from the statue. One dollar, or one minute of our time should not be
wasted on this project. If it is built, and becomes a wonder of the world, I will be proven
wrong, but with these numbers, I doubt it. Jim Ryan
